Police seeking help in solving June 20 Savannah slaying

Grady Maurice Lipsey was found dead June 20 near a vacant Cleland Street home owned by his family.

Savannah-Chatham police Detective Jonathan Puhala said Friday police need help in solving the crime.

“We need community help in solving this because the best cases are made … solved with the help of the community,” Puhala said during a morning press conference at the site.

“He has a family. He had a wife and we want to get this case solved.”

Lipsey, 39, was killed by at least one gunshot June 20 and Puhala said neighbors reported hearing gunshots near the vacant house. His body was found about 8 a.m.

“He had been shot and some things were taken,” Puhala said.

The homicide detective steered clear of revealing other details.

“To speculate the actual motive is premature,” Puhala said.

The property is located in the Hudson Hill/Bayville neighborhood in West Savannah.

“It’s still owned by the Lipsey family,” Puhala said, adding that no one was living there.

“It’s a homicide. That’s what makes it special,” he said.

Anyone with information that might lead to the identification of the gunman is asked to call Crimestoppers at 912-234-2020 or text CRIMES (274637). In the body type, include “CStop2020” plus the tip. Tipsters remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
